Ronda

Ronda Columns

Ronda is a mere 50 km from Marbella and is reached by a rather interesting road (C-339) that twists and turns up the mountain. The city stands on a mount divided into two by the famous Ronda Gorge. Various bridges link the two parts of the city, the most interesting, artistically speaking, is the Puente Nuevo. Ronda's large city walls remain intact, this is owed much to continuous restoration.

There are far too many monuments and buildings of interest in Ronda as the whole town is made up of all of them. What can be mentioned are what I consider to be the generally most interesting features.

Puente Nuevo Bridge

The first is El Puente Nuevo bridge which was constructed back in the 18th century. Originally built by the Moors this bridges features some gates of enormous interest, such as those of Almocabar (13th century) and Carlos V (16th century).

Walking around this area many hours can pass whilst you take in just how amazing it all really is. The second is the bullring. The Real Maestranza bullring is internationally renowned due to its rich history and architectural peculiarities, in whose style the neoclassical predominates.

Although many people may not agree with traditional bullfighting the architecture leaves many standing back in awe.
